What We Do
Grow with us through
Centred Workshops
Imagination
The Girls who Grow Imagination Centred Workshops are a 2 hour workshop for 15 – 17 year old girls who are curious about re imagining and re designing a future that they would be proud of.

Experiences in Wakatipu, Mt Aspiring, The Wairarapa and Kapiti Coast.
Through story telling, visualisation, nature experiences, interactive challenge, opportunity and solution activities alongside supporting the students to connect to their purpose, Girls who Grow are sparking the students imaginations to get creative about future roles that have a positive impact on our beloved environment.

Experiences in Wakatipu, Mt Aspiring, The Wairarapa and Kapiti Coast.
The Imagination Centred Workshops are an introduction to the Girls who Grow program and are facilitated through colleges with a minimum of 30 students in each workshop.
Challenges
Imagination
The Girls who Grow Imagination Challenges have been designed with the support of the Young Enterprise Scheme and redesigning their Innovation Challenge to be centred around nature, the environment and land based solutions to regional environmental issues.
Through a 1 day interactive challenge the students work through a design thinking program learning about a particular regional issue, researching their problem by working with their mentor to learn more (this is their Google on the day), using diverse brainstorming strategies to generate ideas, designing and building prototypes and presenting these back to a panel of judges at the end of the day.

first Imagination Challenge hosted in Otago
Our first Imagination Challenge hosted in Otago has seen three of the winning ideas being developed into meaningful projects with small groups of students alongside a Girls who Grow industry mentor and will be presented to a collective of people from across the region in December 2024.
Our next challenges are being held for schools in the Wairarapa (focused on water) and Kapiti Coast (focused on soil health and nutrients) in September 2024.
lunch and learn experiences
On farm
The Girls who Grow on farm lunch and learn experiences enable the students to get out and about in their region to experience diverse farms, land use, nurseries and organisations that are growing food and fibre that underpins Aotearoa’s economic well-being.
Through these experiences the students will learn about some of the challenges on the property, how the solutions they have designed in the Imagination Challenge could support these land owners and organisations and have hands on experiences to see, touch, feel, taste and connect back to the land.
Our on farm experiences so far have included
A 1 day experience at Hemp Central, Forest Lodge Orchard and Moreish Kitchen in Otago where students learnt about hemp production for hemp crete, NZ’s only fully electric cherry orchard and learnt about sourcing local produce to create healthy and nutritious, colourful and vibrant meals.
A 1 day experience at Akura Nursery, Le Gra Vineyard and W2K Sheep and Beef Farm in the Wairarapa where students learnt about water races, the impacts of water in climate change and water drainage on land.

to create impact
Regional Environmental Projects

Designed during the Imagination Challenge we have been supporting the development of three Drought Solutions in Otago including a Water Filtration system, a Vitamin and Mineral Capsule and a Tree Lucerne nursery.
The students from Wakatipu High School and Mt Aspiring College have been working in small teams and supported by industry mentors to develop their ideas into meaningful and impactful projects for the region and will be presenting these at Lake Hawea Station on Friday 6th December.
We are so proud of our teams of students with the students from Wakatipu High School being announced as finalists in the Spirit of Wakatipu Gala and Awards to be announced in October 2024.

Girls who Grow needs your support to continue to enable our next generation of female leaders, change makers and environmental guardians.
